It’s quite possible we just witnessed the most significant event in Canadian history, rivalled only by the founding of the country.

That event was the official death of our democracy and here is the death certificate:

Recently, a national security report alleged that there is a widespread issue of “elected” officials wittingly engaging in treason. This includes sharing confidential information with hostile foreign governments, such as China and India, as well as aiding their pursuits of interfering with Canadian politics. I put the word elected between quotations because it’s all but confirmed in a court of law that Canada’s elections have been compromised by foreign states. At this point, it’s hard to know who has more leverage in Canadian politics: citizens or the Chinese Communist Party.

The Red Pill or the Blue Pill

While I didn’t find this news particularly surprising, I am experiencing a very unfamiliar feeling. I imagine it’s a very similar sensation to unplugging from the Matrix for the first time. I always doubted the legitimacy of our democracy but I didn’t have any concrete proof that it was all a lie. Unfortunately, these recent developments confirm my worst suspicions. I no longer feel like I’m questioning from within an illusion but waking up in a grim landscape.
