From Stalin to Trudeau: Turning Art into State Sponsored Propaganda

In Stalin’s Soviet Union, art was used to enforce conformity. In Trudeau’s Canada, the CBC’s comedy sketches may be doing the same.

The CBC: Comedy or Control?

In recent years, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has become an example of how state-controlled media can serve as a tool for propaganda rather than a source of entertainment or independent journalism. Consider a recent "comedy" sketch mocking the Freedom Convoy aired by the CBC, funded by taxpayers.

The sketch, seemingly produced to entertain, falls flat on its comedic face, leaving viewers questioning how the government can justify spending what can only be assumed to be hundreds of thousands of dollars on such lacklustre content.

But this isn’t just about poor comedic timing or lazy writing. The deeper issue is what the CBC’s output represents in the broader context of government control over art and media.

The Disinformation Machine: How Susceptible Are We to AI Propaganda?

In a free society, the primary role of art is to express the human experience, to explore the depths of the soul. But when a government seizes control of artistic expression, art transforms into something far more sinister: a tool to enforce ideological conformity.

State-Sponsored Propaganda: A Historical Perspective

The CBC, under Trudeau's watch, appears less concerned with providing genuine entertainment and more focused on ensuring that the narrative aligns with the government's agenda. The purpose of these "comedy" sketches and other programming is not to amuse, but to subtly reinforce the idea that good citizenship equates to unquestioning obedience to State authorities.

This isn’t a new phenomenon. Throughout history, regimes that sought to consolidate power understood the importance of controlling the narrative. Art and media became the battleground for hearts and minds, where the State's version of truth was disseminated and dissent was systematically erased.
